Kinect. Fastest selling consumer device. “Super-Hardcore” gamers, get over it.

According to, well a bunch of sources, including The Guinness Book of World records, Microsoft and many a video game website, Kinect has surprised us all as it has now become the “fastest selling consumer device in a 60 day period”. Thats right, fastest ever. Apparently, Kinect has sold more than the iPad or even  the Nintendo DS, well at least in its very early few months of release last year, that is. Lets not get that carried away Microsoft. Still, I for one am very surprised with its initial success, its a great fun little gaming peripheral don’t get me wrong, but I never expected it to catch on so fast, so soon. Especially with the acceptable but not great software line up that it currently has. Those of you that listen to our video game podcast, Wonderpod, know very well that I had the opportunity to use and test Kinect for many months before it was released to the public at launch. Thus I knew its potential and how cool the little device really is, but I just didn’t foresee it catching on like it has.

Now, to keep this momentum going, MS has to really give us a good software lineup this fall/ winter and I look forward to seeing what will come down the pipe. Will the GOW Kinect rumors be true and set things up for a more hardcore Kinect library or will we be playing cute mini games yet again this Christmas? Time will only tell, but I for one am very excited with the news of the popularity of Kinect. This means developers will be taking notice, and hopefully in places like XBLA, taking risks with this new hardware.  I will not get into any fan-boy Kinect VS Move BS here because I am sure that Sonys motion device is pretty cool, albeit unoriginal. I will leave all those  idiotic comments for somewhere else. However, I do have message to some of the fanboys out there. To all the ” Super Hardcore ” so called core gamers out there who predicted Kinect would be an absolute failure, I say this. Get out of  the lonely darkness of your Mothers basement, buy Kinect and experience social, fun and new ways to enjoy video games. Either that, or say the minority, stay negative, and most likely stay a virgin… but hey your “super hardcore” at videogames and everything else sucks, right?

I for one am glad for Kinects success as I look forward to what Kinect has in store in the near future, Game On and have fun people !
