HomeFront Ice Hockey.

How did it become Thursday already? I am starting to think alien gnomes are stealing days from me. If that is the case I hope they let me play video games while they make off with my Monday’s and Tuesdays. Speaking of video games, it has been old school week at the McGee complex.

I picked up Ice Wind Dale at Good Old Games a couple days back. If your unfamiliar with the game it is a Bioware RPG. I recall back when it was released reading reviews that called it Baldurs Gate without the story. I played it back when it was new, but I don’t recall ever finishing it. I am having a blast with it, but it is the quintessential RPG. If you have ever heard Pat or Glasenator discuss what they don’t like about RPG’s, this game is a prime example of that. I still think this set of Bioware classics are just as good as anything they produce today. In fact Bioware was in the frozen North long before Blizzard. I bet only three people get that joke. Look if you love Bioware and it’s current line up of games I recommend looking up some of the classics.

One of the by products of working long hours is my lack of enthusiasm for nightly multi-player gaming. Don’t get me wrong, it has nothing to do with our awesome crew of gamers. My problem is if I am that tired, I would rather mindless grind on a single player game like on my PC. Something like minecraft or Ice Wind Dale. It has kind of left Homefront in the lurch so to speak. It’s not Homefront’s fault, for all it’s flaws I still enjoy the game. I don’t feel like playing Halo or Bad Company 2 either. I say that as a primer for making fun of THQ’s Danny Bilson. Who has been making the rounds of the gaming blogs. He is telling us all how Homefront was much better than it’s 70 metacritic score indicates. While I may agree with that to a certain extent, he would have been wise to tone down his rhetoric. The game had a lot of issues and is in no way shape or form a big league competitor. The thing that earned the game my backing was it’s potential. Even with it’s flaws I could see it doing well with a sequel. Let’s hope Mr. Bilson saves some of his enthusiasm to argue for a sequel to be made. I also hope Kaos learns from it’s mistakes with the original. I guess at the end of the day we all defend the things we love. Even if it’s not the best option available to us.

The hockey playoff’s have arrived. Right now as a fan of the Red Wings, I am rather concerned about how far we will go this year. Normally Detroit has players get hurt more during the early part of the regular season. It always seems like by the time the playoffs roll around everyone on the roster is healthy. This year has been the exact opposite for the team. They are rolling in to the playoffs with a lot of players banged up. It doesn’t help that the Western Conference has gotten a lot stronger in the past few years. I am not even the least bit comfortable with having an easy time disposing of the Phoenix Coyotes at this point. Given that team may be shipped off to the moon after the playoffs, they are still a force to be reckoned with. This may be the first year where I show symptoms of fandom. Lord help us all. Ideally I really want us to get to Vancouver. Let’s see what the brothers Sedin think of Homer and Howard. Oh and if your curious about my thoughts on the Eastern Conference, I am rooting for the Philadelphia Flyers. I have no reason to make Al Creed mad as he might murder me with his beard.

i had no bloody clue they were books. The games actual title is Icewind Dale. So my lazy spelling may be the source of the confusion or Bioware used the books your talking about.

Hold the phone Mr. McGee you wing nut you read a couple of those books. Silly man. That said I don't think the video game has anything to do with them. Granted I am wrong a lot.

Actually my gut tells me Vancouver versus Philadelphia in the finals. Sounds good to me.

We will see. I love the Stanley Cup playoffs. Last year, the 7th and 8th seed finished off the East. It's truly a second season that way.,. fucking great hockey. If Al sees his Flyers lose another Cup final…. it will be ugly!!! 😛
