Will Nintendo announce next console at E3?

The internet is abuzz with stories about Nintendo announcing a new console, call it the Wii 2 if you want, just a few months away at this years E3.  Big name Video game blogs and websites are posting about this and Game Informer has all but called it a fact, stating some ” very good sources” which have not been named as of yet have contacted them about it. If true , it does make sense. If you think about it the Big N’s software line up for the rest of the year for the Wii is not exactly stellar, so they must be working on something, the question is, what? The rumor going around the internet of a Wii price drop of 50 dollars sometime before E3 only adds fuel to the possibilities of a new console announcement. I for one would love to see what Nintendo has up their sleeve for the next generation. HD visuals? Yes please. MUCH improved online service? Again, yes please! Improved motion and voice controls that can compete with Kinect? Oh yeah that would be nice as well. So, while not 100 % confirmed as of the time I am typing this, it would not surprise me if we see a tease of the newest Nintendo console. After all, with the Sony Move and Microsoft Kinect, the Wii hardware has quickly become a very dated console with nothing unique to offer, last generation visuals and a poor online service. I am hoping to see something new and fun from the Big N this E3 to be honest. And with the 3DS launch AND the possibility of a  ” Wii 2 ” announcement, this could be a great year for Nintendo fans!

Looks like a Zelda game will be the first and last purchase for my Wii. It's sort of fitting in a way. I think the last game i got for the Wii was Super Mario Galaxy 2 (which i extremely disliked) last July. 0 standout games (IMO) for a console for almost a year is definitely an indicator that they're going to HAVE to announce a new system very soon.

I have to admit that DKC Returns was great and I hear Kirby Epic yarn is also very good. But assided from Zelda, i dont see anything worth getting for the Wii as it stands now.

With Kinect and its upcoming games the Wii really and I mean really feels out dated. It will be very interesting to see what happens here when they make an announcement.

I didn't include this in my post, but some " sources " are saying it will be more powerful a processor than the PS3 and yet be backwards compatible with the Wii.

I really hope it has good wireless interconnectivity with the 3DS.

I love my old favorite Nintendo games. But what if this new console wasn't backwards compatible? I think it would turn out for the better and allow for Nintendo to focus on creating new IP's rather than focusing on what we've seen so many times before. Don't get me wrong, I love my Marios and Zeldas, and Nintendo won't fail to impress with them. I think a newer experience rather than relying on the past would do wonders for Nintendo.

Too early. They better bring a big gun to a knife fight.

" Rumor " UPDATE : Sources now confirm to IGN the new Nintendo controller allows players to stream entire games to the device from the console, saying it's like a miniature television. The screen size on the controller is also confirmed to be six inches in size – IGN
