Brawler of the Year – 1993

This year we start seeing many more console titles. They’re not always that great, but they’re there all the same! Actually, this year was tied up for a while, but it eventually became clear who the true winner was.

Dungeons & Dragons – Tower of Doom (Arcade)

When I think D&D, I usually think of turn-based RPGs and sometimes the God awful older PC titles that I could never get into (even now). What I DON’T usually think of is a brawler/RPG hybrid that’s done immeasurably well. Lots of characters to choose from, plenty of forks in the road, several types of attacks, magic, items, upgrades, level ups, and much more.

I wouldn’t say it’s as strong as last year’s winner as far as being a medieval fantasy, but I WOULD say as far as an action brawler it’s an excellent title.

Runner Ups

And as far as the one that tied for a while? FUCKING PUNISHER. I…LOVE…how over the top that game is. To be honest, most games this year are fan-fucking-tastic…yes, even a lot of the console titles. About the only one I’d stay away from, well…I’m sure it’s obvious, but if you really don’t know, then PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DON’T PLAY BEBE’S KIDS. Yeah, that’s about it.
