Wonderpod Episode 63

Wonderpod is ready to go and being launched on Friday the 13th no less. Does this mean there will be haunting glitches in the file? Perhaps there will be a terrifying scream during the news? I will just kill the suspense right now and tell you none of that is going to happen. Mostly because we had no clue this show was coming out on the dreaded 13th. So it is just us babbling about video games.

Debate Topic: Social game death (final)

Cosmonaut G has a question from space

Obsidian goes about hyping Dungeon Siege III in the oddest way.

Gabe Newell tells us that Valve has moved on from episodic content.

The first COD MW3 story for us and it is a hilarious one.

What I missed mutates into more COD MW3 stuff.

I had a number of literal laugh out loud moments this week, minimal amount of news or not. There's a few topics that we'd like to think are going to be put to bed, but alas, I doubt they ever truly can be. For the time being, the PSN issue, game ratings, and social gaming need a break. But they'll be back, I'd bet.

I don't mind episodic content. I'd like to see Valve do both, honestly. However, the points made about L4D2 are essentially were I stand as well.

After putting 160 hours into Fallout: New Vegas (and still have managed NOT to get the climatic decision event to trigger in which you cannot go back), I will say that if you liked Fallout 3, you are in for a treat. The patches have been flawless for game-breakers thus far. It's still a wee bit buggy. My biggest knock on the game is that it doesn't really explain the factions and social elements of the story's groups alliances and enemies very well. You could go through this game, guns a blazing and shoot everyone you like. I wouldn't recommend that personally since the actually sociology and politics will be lost if you do.

New Vegas is way better written in that regard than 3. You have to be very considerate of what you wear, your previous actions, and the companions you travel with almost everywhere you go. Some allies will instantaneously break out into gunfire in seemingly peaceful towns if their faction is at war with the town in question's occupants. On the other hand, if the town's occupants are on edge about your companion, but not yet at war, they might tell you something like, "You know you're travelling with a fucking murderer, right?" To get the full backstory experience, you really need to be sensitive to these types of elements. For almost every quest to be available to players, one needs to be as peacefully diplomatic to all factions and groups for as long as possible. You will be amply notified that you are at the no-turning-back point when you arrive at that point in the story.

Considering this game new can be found for $20 brand new if you look, for 160 hours (150 minus the first DLC pack), this is serious value.

I also planning on downloading ALL of the DLC for New Vegas, with a new adventure coming out in May, June, and July respectively.

Glad the show made you LOL a few times, It was fun making it which makes all the difference, to be honest.
The PSN issues will be all over but the crying I bet in about 2 weeks, so" hopefully" we wont need to cover much of it again as its a pretty negative topic and poor Sony is getting enough bad press as it is.

I personally don't think that the casual/ social gaming "topic" needs to be put to bed at all, but rather it needs to be taken from other angles than our usual " we told you so" discussions. Social gaming & causal gaming is a big topic that many enjoy, so we should not put discussion of it to bed ,but we do need to change our focus to the GAMES and not what some developer is saying about them and how we think they are wrong and we are right. We have been there and done that several times, now we need to start talking about the actual games I think.
