Pottermore

So I don’t know if you guys ever read any of the Harry Potter series, but for my generation it’s sort of a big deal.  I literally grew up with J.K. Rowling’s novels.  The first one came out when I was only 6, before I could even read well; so my mom would read a few pages of it to me every night before I went to bed.  Eventually I learned to read (thank goodness) and waited in anticipation for each new book.  I’d like to think that a lot of my critical thinking and reading skills came from reading those big books at such a young age.  The release of each new book was always a big deal, and grew bigger each time.  But with the last movie over and done with, it seemed for a little while that the story was finally done, no more Harry.  But earlier this summer J.K. Rowling announced this thing called Pottermore.  Here I’ll let her explain.

So basically Pottermore will be an internet site that will act as a companion to the books.  Which probably means that there will be a plethora of information that she couldn’t cram into the books along with games and trivia and what not, ho hum.  But what’s got everyone all excited is that somehow you will be placed into the books along with the main characters, and will be able to reread the books as if you attended Hogwarts.  Now how this is going to work is anyone’s guess but it sounds pretty freaking cool.  The site is supposed to officially launch in October but throughout this week they’ve been asking a question about each book, one each day, and if you get it right fast enough you get early access to the Beta.  So long story short I got in.  I’m pretty excited because this is a pretty exclusive beta, due to the fact that there are sooo many crazy Harry Potter fans out there that are freaking out about trying to get into the million or so spots.

Anyway I’ve registered and got my confirmation email.  What was strange is that you weren’t able to choose your own username.  So out of a list of 5 names I ended up with MahoganyWolf134.  Strange I know, but it’s growing on me.  The beta is supposed to go live in the next few weeks, so I’ll be sure to let you guys know if this thing is cool or not.
