Chrome Games 1 (Creatures and Castles)

It is time to start bringing you fine readers some Google Chrome games. We have talked about game apps for this web browser several times on Wonderpod. I have since decided to get off my lazy ass and start playing a few to share. The goal being to give you some fun games to waste time with. The first game out of the gate is Creatures and Castles.

Creatures and Castles is an interesting little puzzle game. In keeping with a lot of Chrome games, half of it is free and the other half you will pay .99 cents for. While I am sure the pay adventure is fun, there are 64 levels to beat in the free adventure. To save you some time the Medieval adventure is free and the Egyptian one is not. I even have a screen shot of the select screen for the illiterate.

The game’s mechanic is really simple. Using your mouse you set the path that your adventure will follow. Your score is based on how many steps you take to get from the start to the finish. For those you that have trouble with a keyboard/mouse set up, your in luck. The game only requires the left and right button on your mouse. That is a great thing about browser games like this. Easy control scheme that can be mastered by anyone. In fact the way you solve the puzzles is the reason I tried CNC. It’s an interesting mechanic and makes it stand out from the zillion other puzzle games.

Obviously once you get deeper into the game setting the right path and making sure your adventurer makes it through becomes more difficult. The game gives you plenty of obstacles to work through and each puzzle has it’s own unique design. It only took me about 7 levels before I was cursing at axe throwing knights. In the interest of full disclosure I only made it to level ten before writing this.

The graphics are pretty spiffy for a Chrome game. Nothing that is going to top Crysis, but it’s better than a lot of games in the app store. Music and sound effects mesh with the title nicely. Tie that in with the simple control scheme and you have a an extremely well rounded game. If nothing else it’s another great time waster and we all love those.
