Bioware Does The Waffle Dance Of Doom

Oh BioWare,  you make it so hard to love you some times.  It’s like the studio likes being abused by raging, obsessive fan children.  Last week  they weren’t going to change the end of Mass Effect 3 and the irrational fan rage swarmed like a mob full of village idiots. Now according to CVG, they are waffling and wavering like a one legged man in a mine field.  I really feel sorry for the poor community manager in this story. After that I feel sorry for almost nobody else.

Upon reading this story, this is the first thing that popped into my mind. I bet the whole industry is nervously watching the debacle to see how it all plays out.  Because can you imagine how shit is going to go down from now on if BioWare caves to these demands. Next thing you know video games will come with sixty shitty endings and the rest of the game will probably suffer due to it.  Look I understand we live in a world where the entitled feel like they have the right to change everything to suit them. That said I really don’t want to see the ending changed. Sure part of it is because watching spontaneous combustion of idiots is entertaining.  Caving in and changing the ending is just going to cause this to happen over and over again.  Don’t believe me?  Look at how other “trends” have happened in the industry.

One company started the whole online pass mess and at the time I said this was just going to get worse. Now look a year or two later, most publishers are forcing the things down your throat. The same bloody thing will happen in this case. You allow the irrational to change the ending to ME3 and next up will be Halo 4,  COD whatever cash cow is due out this year, Dragon Age 3, and on and on.  As much as I kind of waffled on Wonderpod last week, I have zero patience for any of it. As it is now, I have no intention of buying ME3 until I see if BioWare is going to cave. If they do in face cave I will pass this game up like it’s Daikatana.

Look fan children it doesn’t really matter how the damn story ended.  You got a wonderful Journey for three video games and one would think that could keep you happy. Granted I’m stupid, so maybe that’s why I think that way.  There is also the simple fact that in the grand scheme of things this ending doesn’t mean shit. As I said on Wonderpod, just look at Bioshock. The ending of the original was pretty much the end. Not much room for a sequel and that didn’t stop them from making one anyway.  So while your all butt hurt and whiny now, with time and possibly a lobotomy, the pain of a crappy ending to a great trilogy will pass.  That last comment wasn’t just for gamers, BioWare should also take heed.

haha best line of a very good article here Bruce.
Hey, all self entitled morons of the gaming world and Internet. You want an ending to a game the way YOU want it to end? Go to school, learn video game design, computer programming and story design and make your own fucking video game where you can be the main character and you can jerk off on screen to your own special needs ending. No?? You don't want to DO that? Then STFU and play the game someone else made for you, how they made it.

You two are COMPLETELY missing the point of the tsunami of bitching before you. You couldn't be any less on the mark if you were trying to piss in Satan's eye by pointing straight in the air. Spoilers BTW.

While I don't know what majority opinion is about the negativity towards ME3's ending. I view two things horribly wrong with it, now mind you, I am not saying "change the ending" – I am actually saying "quit while you're behind."

See… The first issue is it's painfully obvious that this series has ended on the principle of "Want to see the ending? Then you'll just have to buy your DLC then you little shits." This is unprecedented. I've never played a game where the ending was stripped out and sold later as DLC, only thing close was Fallout 3, but that was just actually additional content, and it wasn't that much of a blow to miss. It was some more shit to do, it worked.

But for a game that has already nickle and dimed the gaming public with DLC, Online Passes, DRM, etc. I find it despicable that they'd end the buck on one of the most highly anticipated conclusive games to a franchise so blatantly corporate and greedy. It's a disservice to the story, the following, and everything Bioware tried to cultivate with it. EA is to blame there, and you speak of trends starting on fans dictating retroactive story telling on already released titles? How about the trend of publishers holding any sort of climax hostage until you fork over them digital monies?

The second mistake was that Bioware had this coming. Cause they, for lack of a better reference, decided to Peter Molyneux this whole deal, by talking about how epic the ending was going to be, how all your choices would mean something, and would effect the ending in a meaningful way, how it wasn't just going to be an "A, B, and C ending"… THAT'S WHAT IT FUCKING WAS. I heard one guy compare it to Deus Ex in how it had you choose your ending. Yeah, sure. In the actual CHOOSING. At least each ending had a different result. At the end of ME3, you go down a fucking path and choose one of the three hallways to choose your ending. And it always ends the same way, all you get is a different color explosion. WELL GOLLY FUCKING SHIT I DIDN'T KNOW I WAS PLAYING FANTAVISION.

There's some slight differences depending on your performance, but the ending basically suggests two DLC to describe the ending. One for what actually became of Shepherd, the other about what Joker and whatever random slut he jumped off the boat with do afterward. This is unacceptable, and quite frankly, Bioware deserves the abuse. Yeah, fan children are stupid, but in this case, let them get eaten alive. No skin off my back.

Actually, if I want to be disappointed with Bioware, usually I just play Sonic – Dark Brotherhood.
