Convention Ninja Critic

Apparently the Oscars were on last night. I had no clue as they have little relevance to my life. Watching them was on my list of priorities, smashed right between watching grass grow and getting my balls kicked by a woman. So I hope you didn’t show up this morning expecting me to talk about them. All I know about movies from last year is there was a king who stuttered and ballerina’s be nuts. Which after watching half a ballet, makes sense to me. They all look like their one missed car payment away from stabbing people.

I saw the rumors of the ipad 2 and just started laughing. We even touched on it during the last podcast. What I find so hilarious is Apple keeps pumping out new tech and nobody seems to care. If this was Microsoft or Google or Activision, there would be outrage. Somehow Apple has conned consumers in to believing they are a customer friendly company. They aren’t evil like Microsoft and they only produce excellent products. While the latter is true, make no mistake. Apple is every bit as greedy as all the other giant tech corporations. They keeping pumping out hardware and morons keep gobbling it up. Owning the latest product from Apple has become a status symbol. To me it says hey I am moron with more money than brains. Look I have no issue with free market and Apple spamming new devices all over the place. It does gall me that fools still look at them as better or kinder than the competition. That my friends is utter bullshit. Ask anyone working at Foxconn

Last year during various episodes of the podcast I bashed on metacritic. Now it became obvious after a while, that I really didn’t have an issue with the site itself. More the people who used the service they provide as a bludgeoning tool to attack other people. I got really sick of seeing well it’s got an X score on metacritic, why is your review so low. In theory metacritic is a nice service that allows you to see a composite of review scores. They provide the service for all kinds of media, but video games is all I go to the site for. I still have a problem with the service and it’s one that in my mind discredits the video game portion. If you go look at the Killzone 3 scores listed they have taken two reviews from official Playstation sources. Both the US and UK Playstation magazine reviews are listed in the set of scores for the game. Same thing goes for any major Xbox release, they use the scores from official Xbox sources. Doing this make’s their entire review setup invalid. It is in the official blogs and magazines best interest to give games like Killzone a good score. Especially games that are exclusives. Metacritic has a good service and one that can be helpful. They discredit that service by using scores from official sources. I don’t care if its, Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo. They have no business being involved in the metacritic process.

This year I am going to make my third attempt at going to PAX. My first attempt in 2009 was killed by work scheduling and while it made me very angry there was nothing I could do. Last year was the one that really made me groan. I decided to not buy a three day pass early as I expected I wouldn’t have the time or money come September. So instead of buying the badge and selling it later, I passed all together. Come September I had the money and the time, but no stinking badge. This year I will buy the bloody badge and see what happens. If the stars align and I do go, I will transform into my convention ninja mode. I morph into this mode the first time I hit any big expo, show or convention. I have found over the years that if I just stick to myself and observe it’s more fun and you see a lot more. Plus I am a card carrying member of the old nerd club. Meaning in internet years I am almost dead. So I doubt I will fit in very well with the younger class of hip nerds. You will not see my slinking around the convention it is but a shadow you see. Bwahahahahaha.

I kind of FFW'd through and played video games with the Oscars on the other TV. The best part of the show, was when me and PatMan killed a bunch of people in Halo: Reach. Loved that movie!
