Everyone Else Is Doing It, So Why The Hell Not…

Read ahead to see what my favorite wrestling game is and why.

Fuck yeah, man. While the previous one on the N64 was pretty damn good, this one was also pretty epic. It features great music, awesome animations, different crowd noises depending on the situation (very new and different back then), great sound effects, an impressive lineup of wrestlers, a create your own thingy, several modes of play, and easily endless hours of enjoyment. I’m normally not a big wrestling fan, but this game floored me.

If AKI and THQ would get together again (or if they have already), I would absolutely pick up anything at all they’d produce. Sadly, AKI went on to do the Def Jam titles, which were pretty damn fun until the third one, but now I have no idea where they are. THQ’s off doing their own thing, but it should be noted they weren’t that great of a company back in the day, so making a game like this was a stroke of brilliance on their part, though I wonder how much of it was really just AKI.

I would totally pick up a revamped version of this for XBLA, if it ever happened.

Nice GS! I loved this whole series, which culminated in No Mercy (my fav) and brought every single move, taunt, appearance feature into one game. This title was just a hair away from the final title in the series, and the engine was spot on. Great to play, and unlike many wrestling video games, you actually felt like you moved the wrestler, and not a time-based series of video-cut-scene presets.
