There was a time several years ago when the WPO crew played online together on a near nightly basis. Games like Battlefield, L4D, Halo ,COD and others. We would have parties of up to 6 people, all enjoying the fun that online multiplayer offers when played with a group of friends. This weekend, I have been playing the Alpha for Evolve , a team based FPS that could very well have been great fun in the past , but now playing alone it just isn’t enough to get me excited.

While the game itself plays and controls just fine, I find that playing with randoms is frustrating and repetitive. Also, in all the games I have played ,the exact same thing happens. The monster gets a head start, we chase after it, it scares birds, the monster evolves and levels up, we find it and try to kill it before it kills us. Repeat. That’s it. The same formula. Over and over. With silent, random players not working very well as a team. There has been no talk of a single player story or campaign mode at all, so I assume, there will only be this multiplayer in the game. And the characters are generic and boring, what little we learn of them.
Evolve can be a fun game, in the right circumstances and with the right players. With a group of friends the game will be a blast. But for my personal circumstances those days are over and thus this game has no appeal, at least as I have played it so far in its Alpha form. Maybe a few years ago the game would have been fun with the WPO crew, but now its just not enough fun to play alone. I have a lot of games and less time to play than ever. So, I am afraid that Evolve is about to go Extinct as far as my wallet is concerned.
