Pestilence or Famine?

Hey there, I am feeling like one of the four horseman of the apocalypse this morning. Your more than welcome to interpret that however you wish. I will say it still amazes me that people who claim to know me, still show surprise and get upset at the things I do. What you see is what you get people. I thought that was pretty damn clear at this point. Let’s move on to a topic I will attempt to handle with tact and diplomacy. This ought to be good.

Last night the crew tried playing Homefront as a group. It didn’t go well and it came as no surprise to see Audiomaster G had something to say about it. I understand and wholly endorse the rage he put to the page. I have been there, in fact I decided to tell the world to go fuck itself last night just to make myself feel better. He has every right to his opinion and I will always support that right. This time around I just don’t happen to agree. The reasons I don’t agree probably border on the pathetic, but to fully explain we first need to take a walk through history.

In two thousand seven I purchased my Xbox three sixty, along with it was a copy of COD modern warfare. This was the start of my journey down the fucked up server road. With the first modern warfare I escaped the opening week shenanigans. Sadly the servers got crushed in the now famous XBL Christmas disaster. From there it was on to Gears of War 2 where I started playing with PatMan. Again Shitty servers always fucked up our fun. From that point forward the following games always had a weeks worth of problems at least. COD WAW, COD modern warfare 2, Battlefield 1943, Left 4 Dead, Battlefield Bad Company 2, Left 4 Dead 2, COD Black Ops and now Homefront. Like an abused animal game companies have beat me until I don’t care anymore. I expect the kinds of bull shit we encountered last night. The only shining beacon in this entire mess was Halo Reach. Which for me was not my favorite game experience, but at least the servers held up under the gamer onslaught.

Saying I don’t agree with Audiomaster G isn’t correct. I think it’s more that I may agree, but having suffered from the mess so long, I see no point in caring about it. Which as I said earlier makes me pretty pathetic. If there is any comfort I am not alone, because the vast majority of gamers put up with the same shit. In a way were all idiots for accepting what the crew experienced last night as normal or okay. Like a lemming to the sea I will be back playing Homefront again soon. It is the most fun I have had by myself since Battlefield Bad Company 2. So I will continue to put up with the bullshit in pursuit of that fun.

Lets move off of video games and on to fucking thieves. I read a lot of comics on the internet, all of which are done by talented people. Most of whom are usually self employed. Meaning they derive all of their income from said comics. So when I hear about a guy like Told Goldman and the shit he gets up to it pisses me off. If your not aware of this man and his acts of thievery then follow these handy links. I first heard about this jerk in two thousand five. It pissed me off then and I had hoped they would of sent his ass down for good by now. Sadly that is not the case and people really need to see the misery he causes. In any given week I create a metric ton of content that is either mine or a group WPO creation. I would be unleashing the hounds if I found out any of it had been used without giving me credit. I can’t even imagine what it feels like to see some worthless shit make money off of my creations. Told Goldman is a no talent hack who stole his way to whatever fame and fortune he may have. I won’t ask you to stop supporting his various ventures as it’s not my way. At least now our readers know what he is capable of and can decide for themselves.

I am willing to wait it out a few more days and see whats happening with Homefront online. Partially because I am also becoming " desensitized" to the bullshit that most companies are dishing out for the first few weeks and also because what I HAVE been able to play is pretty good fun.

But I want to play with my friends, not randoms when i do actually get into a game. Splitting parties and having one member not even getting into a party match is annoying as hell. Bungie can create code for parties to play together and it works well from day one, so why do other developers struggle so much with this ? Why not simply emulate that code??

Long story short, I also have become desensitized to all the" first week of online bulshit" and the party disconnections that come with most games. However, the fact that many other developers and publishers in the past have fucked up does not excuse THQ for fucking up now, in the present. Its something the industry needs to fix but morons like us, keep buying the games day one and giving them our money. I will just sit tight, wait it out and hope for the best. There is always Halo reach if it doesn't work out but I would like to see what this game can do, when its actually running smoothly.

Yeah I don't think companies are blameless in this, but once the ball is in gamers court we do fuck all with it. As of lunch time I was able to get into ground control and death matches with ease. No way of telling if that fixes the party problem or not.

I do know I had absolute blast playing with the marking drone in the matches I got in on. Ground control is like Battlefield in some ways, but there is something extra there I haven't been able to put my finger on. I am still not happy about what happened last night, but I can see myself easily playing this until the next shooter of the moment comes out.

I've cooled down quite a bit, but am still angry that after 4 hours between two nights of playing, I never actually got one game in with the group. And that the game tells you there are open slots which encourages you to keep trying. I'll give it another chance, but won't lie to you… I bought it to play with friends. If I can't play with friends, I won't be holding onto it for very long. I have thus far enjoyed on single player mode, and have no real criticisms of that part of the game.

You know that is one thing that annoys me and its something they need to remove. Mostly because it can't update fast enough to keep up with people joining. I wouldn't blame you for returning it or giving up, but as I said last night I would give it until Monday.
