This Just In(1/8/2011)

Second day of the new website and the first piece of morning news. I have always had it in mind to do something like this. A little blurb to start your day or more accurately my day. While I am calling it news, it will end up being whatever is on my mind when I site down to write it. Basically I stole the format for Penny Arcade and what Tycho does over there with news post. I always liked the way he does those, so I thought why not do it myself. I even called the category for this The Not Tycho News. I will do one of these hopefully every day, but will see what life thinks of that plan. Feel free to join me as I ramble.

Launching a web site is a lot more work than I thought it would be. Even for a small Word Press based site like this. There are a lot of decisions to be made and things to be learned. I figured out that working on it for about two hours was my limit. Any more time than that would lead to electronics destroying frustration. Stepping away or doing something else for an hour always seemed to work best. While the site isn’t as slick as I hope it will be some day it will work for now.

Now it is just keeping up the enthusiasm levels for doing this day in and day out. The first few days are always exciting. Checking to see if anyone loves you each morning is a thrill. Finding out no one does can suck, but I have been here to long to get discouraged. Nobody wants to toil in obscurity, but if that is what ends up happening I can live with it. Just getting the bastard live and kicking was accomplishment enough. Still thousands of people loving us would be better. I am human after all and own an ego and everything.

Have you ever applied for the privilege of putting ads on a site? I think its the internet equivalent to getting a full cavity search from airport security. I am not sure what they need to plumb our site to find out I swear we aren’t Al Queda. I am allergic to extremists, they make me break out in hives. I used the AQ word in there, does this mean EA will ban me from online play now?

Speaking of games, I find it amusing how bloody addictive facebook games can be. Who needs WOW when I can work on a farm or build a city. It is a bit gamer ego crushing to have your mother whip your ass in Zuma Blitz though. Personally I find it very cool to see my mother and aunt both playing games as women in their later years. I know it’s taboo to write about mom on the Internet, but fuck it. Anyone picking up a game and playing for entertainment is cool in my book.

I saw a fight on twitter yesterday on what is acceptable on a gaming blog and whats not. While I think some gaming blogs get a little two off the topic, it made me realize being up front is best. This site is not I repeat not a gaming blog. Yes, our flagship podcast is about video games and yes we will write about video games. That is just one small piece of what I hope Wonderpod-Online some day becomes. Just didn’t want anyone to get upset when I post about Mario one minute and fly fishing the next. I think we really dodged a bullet on that one.

Ha ha… my mother is 63 and owns a Nintendo DS.

One of our next missions should certainly be looking at pimping out the visual layout and so forth, but until then, we got this puppy up and rolling… That was a challenge, which we won. HAXOR!

Tried registering, but it hasn't yet sent me my password, so I'll just do this guest thing in the meantime. Bruce, congrats on the new site! Catch me on G-Talk next time we're both on.
