Something A Little Different

I am sitting here trying to decide what to write. Which is a little odd for me as I normally just let it pour out and clean up afterward. I like to think of these posts as my one chance to just ramble about what I want and let the audience decide what to make of it. Today I took great care with my tone and words. I did my damnedest to make sure I am clear on what I write today is something I can look back on years from now and still feel strongly about.

I am sure you know that the news broke last night, that the U.S. Special Forces killed Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan. I must admit those are words I thought I would never get a chance to write. As I sit here I am still not exactly sure how I feel about it. Don’t get me wrong I am glad the mass murdering son of a bitch is dead. I just know that this doesn’t really end anything. I know another will take his place, but for the moment the innocent dead have justice and hopefully peace. I recall saying to a close friend of mine back in 2001. “We need to prepare for the possibility that we will never get him.” For years I was afraid that was going to be the case. So when rumors started swirling on twitter tonight, I didn’t get all that interested. Until it was announced that the President was preparing to make a statement. Then of course the avalanche of news including President Obama’s statement followed. It took a while for the facts to sink in and now that it has we turn to the asshole portion of this piece.

I would like to turn my attention to the people who deserve credit for making this happen. The only people who deserve credit for this are as follows. The team of soldiers who went in to Pakistan and actually put lead in Bin Laden’s face. I would also like to give a good portion of credit to the intelligence gathering community who got the information that allowed the special forces to their job. Finally another big hunk of credit to all the armed forces that fought in Afghanistan and Iraq. Those are the people who deserve the credit for this. I am sure by now you’ve guessed who I have no plans on giving credit to.

If you guessed politicians then you know me really well. From the President right on down to the legislature. I don’t care what party they belong to, they deserve zero and I mean zero credit for this. I mean within a half hour of the news breaking people were already fighting on twitter about who deserved credit Obama or Bush. Well there you go Sparky I solved that little dilemma for you. None of the miserable worms deserve the credit for anything outside of maybe rubber stamping the paperwork. I just saved the country five years of worthless dogma filled debate. Mind you I am probably the only American, possibly the only human on the planet that thinks that way. Which would be why I am going out of my way to say it on a site where we normally don’t get involved in this area of life.

I have no earthly idea how much this will change the world. I suspect anyone who tells you they do is lying. If my twitter feed is any indication a large portion of the world may see this as a minor act that was long overdue. I say that because not more than an hour after the news broke. The topic turned to the maniacal tactics of the TSA and airport security in general. I am about positive a couple people may have had strokes or maybe aneurysms due to that debate. Makes me wonder if Osama’s death changed a damn thing. I will remain content with the fact that there is a little less evil in the world and hope for the best on the rest of it.

I'm glad that jenga toppling diaper-head young Santa Claus was finally given a lead enema. I'm like you, though…I never thought we'd ever actually find him. Actually, I thought maybe he'd already passed, what with his dialysis and all. It's almost surreal, to be honest. I am worried about reprisals and I know that doesn't mean al-Qaeda is gone indefinitely or that even the big a-Q should even be what we're worried about by this point, but it's a breath of fresh air all the same.
