Community goes 16 Bit

Hello everyone!  I know talking about a sitcom may not be the norm for a mostly gaming website, but I would just like to let you guys know about an awesome show called Community.

Community is a show on NBC that revolves around a dysfunctional study group trying to pass classes at an equally dysfunctional community  college.  Community is easily one of the smartest, wittiest, and most daring shows on television today.  The jokes come quick and hilarious, and the cast and sets have an attention to detail unprecedented since the cancelled but popular Arrested Development.  If you’ve been on the internet at all this year, you may have heard some talk from passionate fans that the show was going to go the same route as Arrested Development, but thankfully NBC has decided to renew it for at least another season.

But why exactly am I bringing this up here?  Well last night was the Season 3 finale.  NBC ran a Community marathon showing 3 new episodes with the first episode featuring the characters playing an old school video game.  I won’t go into details but almost the entirety of the episode was done using 16 bit graphics and sprites.  References to real life video games are all over the place along with some nods that only seasoned gamers will notice (Recognize that jump?).  I thought the entire premise of the episode was absolutely hilarious, and you have to admire the fact that the show had the balls to scrap a live action episode in favor of a tribute to Gamer-dom.  Every episode of Community is great, but this specific episode would be a great jumping on point for people, especially gamers, to get in on the fun.  And I mean it’s not everyday that you get to see 16 bit graphics and chip-tunes occupying  your TV during prime time.

The episode is free to watch on Hulu for a limited time (with ads) and I hope I can get at least one of you into watching this awesome show.

yes another fan now I don't have to be alone in the love of a show that pushes barriers. I know that the show will always have a niche audience but it was just great and was a refreshing take away from the norm that most shows don't even try nowadays.

This site is not intended to be just about gaming, so it's appreciated man. I don't follow Community, but got a kick out of this. More non-gaming (or hybrid related) stuff is ALWAYS appreciated 'round these parts. Sure, there is lots of love for the gamers, but that is not the point of a catch-all site, brother. 😀 Great post, Glaser!
