Wonderpod Episode 80

The latest and greatest episode of Wonderpod is done. Hopefully your not tuning in for any news out of TGS. Because we didn’t cover any of it. Basically we got through three topics and everybody fell a sleep after that. I got an hour or so of snoring caught on tape. Riveting stuff, which luckily for you I edited out. Before that happened we put together one hell of a show.

Games we’ve been playing gets longer and more entertaining each week.

The pile of shame and how it’s all digital down loads fault

Hearing the frustration in Bruce's voice about the lack of save points was priceless. I have yet to really encounter this degree of save issues in Dead Island, but agree with the sentiment. Having played a bunch of multiplayer with my brother and another friend, there are a few problems with the title in that regard. Sure it's "easier" in a way, but if you are not doing the exact same quests as each other, it will force a prompt that tells you it will skip them. I've missed a few as a result in my first play through character. The way around this is simple, dedicate a character to playing with your mates exclusively so you can experience the whole game.

Honestly, I'm not too concerned about the zombie tea party game. However, since it sparked controversy it seemed like a topic worth tackling.

There is version floating around without the voice over and sound effects to this week’s question. “Who Do You Voodoo?” gets my nod for the best original video game theme song for 2011. Hands down at this moment. Lyrically it ties directly into the story, the character of Sam B, and the feel of the game. Excellent track, that might get trumped by something else before the year is up. It's a refreshing change from the predictable symphonic orchestral background music, or nu-metal music most games use. I love orchestral music, I sincerely do. But the use of it is as about as dead to me in games as zombies are to PatMan.
