Latest StarFox 64 3DS Footage Looking Very Slick.

If you have not heard the news, Nintendo has officially announced that the 3DS will be dropping in price  by a massive 70 dollars on Aug.12. Although I agree with Bruce that this seems a little bit like unnecessary panic by the Big N, its nothing but good news for many consumers whose wallets were previously shut closed by the idea of a 250 dollar handheld. As an early adaptor, I am now called a  “3DS ambassador”, or something  like that , and get rewarded with 20 free NES /GBA titles in the future. Which is not a bad deal to be honest. If your one of the many who now are considering a purchase of the 3D system you need to take a look at this classic N64 title remade and enhanced for the 3DS.  StarFox 64 3D looks very nice in this latest trailer and believe me when I say this, it looks very impressive running in full 3D. They seem to have changed the voices a little bit, which will only bother the most hard core old school StarFox fan out there, but the visual improvements such as the water reflections along with the 3D effects are stunning. Take a look at the latest trailer right here and put StarFox 64 3D on your radar when you pick up the price reduced 3DS in the future!

“Punking” is naturally better than “Planking”

I’m not going to rant here. I’m an old guy when it comes to “What All the Kids Are Doing.” Seems that we’ve heard all about planking. Lying down all flat and being a plank. Pretty cool stuff. Or so I’m told. Looks awesome!

Generally I would never endorse any of this, as it’s not my thing. But, do what you like folks!

Strikeforce-Battle of the Legends: Fedor vs Hendo

After the last event I came to a great realization. I stink at MMA predictions. So I’m trying the exact opposite of what I would choose (the George Costanza method, for you Seinfeld buffs). We’ll see how much better I do.

Heavyweight bout: Fedor Emelianenko (31-3, 1 NC) vs. Dan Henderson (27-8)

Let’s be honest. Both of these guys are total legends in this sport. Henderson is looking like he is on more of a win streak. Fedor has a higher percentage of finishes. I’m almost tempted to just sit back and watch this as a fan. How do you break down a fight like this and describe it? Fedor has age on Henderson and a higher percentage of finishes. Statistically, I would pick Fedor. Costanza says I go with Henderson.

Winner: Henderson

Women’s Welterweight (135 lb) Championship bout: Marloes Coenen (19-4) (c) vs. Miesha Tate (11-2)

I’ve said this a million times. I swoon over Miesha Tate. She is my Justin Bieber. This one will be very hard for me to be unbiased. But I admire Marloes Coenen too, and I was the person who saw her winning against Sarah Kaufman. Tate has the momentum, on a 5-fight win streak. Plus, she doesn’t have the belt, and you know she has to want it. However, Coenen has never won a decision. She is a finisher. I always tend to go with the finisher. As hard as it is for me, I would say Tate. Costanza says Coenen.

Winner: Coenen

Middleweight bout: Robbie Lawler (18-7, 1 NC) vs. Tim Kennedy (13-3)

This should be another really good fight. Kennedy has better momentum (4 of his last 5), as opposed to Lawler (2 of his last 5). Kennedy has worked on his way up from the Challengers series. Now he gets a chance against one of the golden boys of Elite XC/Strikeforce. Kennedy has a more even percentage of victories. Lawler seems to rely more heavily on the KO. Costanza method says to go with Lawler.

Winner: Lawler

Welterweight bout: Paul Daley (20-10-2) vs. Tyron Woodley (8-0)

What better story? Controversial, seasoned veteran Paul “Semtex” Daley taking on skyrocketing prospect Tyron “T-Wood” Woodley. Daley has more experience, T-Wood is on more of a momentum, winning his last 8. This will be a huge test for former Bully Beatdown fighter Woodley. Being the little mark I am for Woodley, he would be my hands-down pick. But the Costanza rule states to choose Daley.

Winner: Daley

Welterweight bout: Scott Smith (17-8, 1 NC) vs. Tarec Saffiedine (10-3)

This should be another interesting fight to watch. This is kind of the “Bronze Medal Game” from a world Cup. Both of these guys, their last fight was against Daley and Woodley, respectively. Smith needs a victory (badly), 2 of his last 5, 2 fight losing streak. Saffiedine is 3 of his last 5. Smith is a finisher. If this stays standing up, it goes to Smith. If it goes to the ground, I’ve got Saffiedine. I would says Smith, so I’m going with Saffiedine.

Winner: Saffiedine

PatMan Picks Retro PC Games: High Octane

Welcome to another PatMan Picks Retro PC games. This time around I am picking one of my favorite racing/action titles on the PC. It was made by the folks at Bullfrog using the same engine that powered the classic Magic Carpet game, which I may or may not talk about another time. The title I am talking currently about is, is of course, High Octane. High Octane is another classic PC game that didn’t get as much attention as it truly deserved, but I probably played enough of it to count for many of those that missed out. For its time it was a very smooth running racing and action game with futuristic hover racing vehicles. I really enjoyed both the speed and the action of High Octane. At times I would play it just as a racing game, taking time only to replenish my flue supplies as I frantically headed to the finish line. Other times I remember going all out on the guns and shooting everything that got in my way, or tried to escape me. This didn’t win me very many races, but I didn’t care it was so fun it was worth finishing near last just to shoot my opponents up. The game was developed in a very quick period of time by Bullfrog and to be honest it does show some sings of “less than polished” visuals and gameplay at times. If they had taken more time to enhance the Magic Carpet engine for a racing title the game may have been absolutely stellar, however as it stood it was very good and fun as they left it. There could have been a few more tracks, but what was there was excellent, smooth and fun. I spent many an hour in front of my PC playing High Octane.

PatMan Picks Stampede Wrestling Classics. Andre The Giant Battle Royal.

After making the clean tag with G, Im back with another edition of Stampede Wrestling classics. This time around I am bringing in someone one BIG. How big you say? How about the legendary Andre the Giant?  In order to showcase his amazing size and skills, the big hearted giant made several appearances in the Stampede promotion over the years often appearing in gimmick matches like handicap matches and “tug of wars” . If you don’t think that Andre had skills, think again. He was man who once lifted a massive Arnold Schwarzenegger off his feet so he couldn’t pay the bill at a restaurant, while only using one arm . Andre had incredible strength. Thus, not accidently killing his opponents in the ring while preforming required great skill on his behalf. Skills that I assure you the other wrestlers were praying for. This week, I bring you a match taylor made for Andre, the battle royal. While its almost impossible to NOT center your attention completely on the giant in this encounter from Stampedes past you will find other wrestlers in the mix that are worth noting as well. At least 2 of the Hart brothers are partaking in the chaos, Bruce and Keith can be seen slugging away at their opponents. Also, a young Stampede Wrestler who would later become the Junk Yard Dog in WWF considers his chances against Andre as well. Enjoy the old school battle royal and I will be back with another ” ring a ding dong dandy ” next week!

McGee On Comics

We have a few guys on staff who have talked about comic books. I love reading the posts they produce, yet never really got into comics myself. So I figured it was time to bore you all to tears with what comics I have read and why I am not a comic book junkie.

Batman Arkham City: Penguin

I am not a big fan of Batman. I am sure I will now be thrown out of the nerd club for daring to utter such filthy. Yet I really like the penguin character and this trailer alone has be interested in Arkham City. Short clip from over at gametrailers, but I like what I see of the Penguin.  Let me know what you think of it in the comments or just boo me for not loving the bat enough.
