The Celebration of Professional Wrestling begins! Ten years ago, almost exactly to the minute that this article was published, the television wrestling landscape changed forever. Only seconds before, the Monday Night War was still underway… but that would change in one fell swoop as Vince McMahon dramatically showed up to open WCW’s final episode of Nitro.
How better to kick off our week of wrestling than to look at one of the most significant moments in the history of the squared circle? Not only is this the ten year anniversary of the death of the WCW, it also falls in one of the highest regarded WrestleManias of all time, number seventeen. And even strangely enough, it was the first Mania match up of Triple H and the Undertaker. This, of course, may very well be the main event at WM27 two Sundays from today.
But all things aside, let’s get to steppin’, and focus on our eyes on the final Nitro. We start our celebration over at Bored Wrestling Fan courtesy of ThinkSoJoE.

Can you fix the title to read 3/26/01? I didn't realize I typed 11 until I saw the post on the BWF twitter.
Yeah, I was wondering if that was intentional (it's been ten years after all). FIXED! But also with the disclaimer, I didn't want to alter it unless otherwise. I really dug this write up, and the fact you did your best to try and dismiss the biases that come from knowing the outcome of this incredibly huge moment in wrestling. I still like to go back and watch McMahon's run down of the WCW roster and his personal "hit list" of guys who are on the outside looking in. It's so vindictive and revealing of the animosity dealt as a result of the war.
I kinda wish I'd have done RAW from that night too, just for Vince's assertion that Jeff Jarrett would be "double f, double i, double r, double e, double d, fired!"

Nitro was really going downhill for a while before this historic night took place and the end was inevitable. However, I still felt sad that probably my favorite wrestling show of all time was going to be dead. If I had to choose between WCW and WWE at the time I would have chosen WCW.
Thanks for the recap, I still remember watching the final episode 10 years ago.
I was fortunate enough to have a TV with Picture in Picture back in the day (a feature I enjoy through my cable provider today), and I was able to watch both RAW and Nitro every week. This night was no exception – I recall exactly where I was sitting – on the green chair in my Grandma's living room – watching it on her TV (she still has the TV and chair in her living room to this day). It was so surreal to witness the end of an era, and to be able to see the simulcast on both channels at once. I'll never forget it. I'm glad that a decade later I'm able to re-live the experience and share my thoughts with the entire world.
I was a faithful fan of the wrestling back during the Monday night wars. Most of the time I would tape them and then watch later. By this point I had given up on WCW and just watched WWF. So to see the how it all ended was a huge surprise to me. Granted I tried to stay away from to much smark stuff back then.
