Smackdown 10/26/12: Hell in the/a Cell Go Away Show

Sweet Jeebus, there is a PPV on Sunday and this is the WWE’s last ditch effort to convince you to pay for it. After battling the ratings challenge of this month, including going up against the NFL, MLB playoffs, infomercials, and the Presidential debates, you’d think they’d treat this show like it meant something. But you’d be wrong. So, let’s just get down to hopping into Ryback’s water tank and swim like a dolphin not violating the wellness policy, shall we?

Happy Halloween! Remember when choosing your costume, sometimes it’s just for the best to be yourself.

PatMan Plays. He-Man:The Most Powerful Game in the Universe ( iOS)

I have the power!  And so can you, for under 1 dollar on your iPhone. It has been a long time since I bought something from the Master Of The Universe collection. Hell, a VERY long time. But once I was a kid of the 80’s who loved everything about He-Man. The cartoon , the comics and especially the toy-line. I still own many of the action figures and vehicles to this day where they wait in storage for my son to discover in the future. So, when I heard of a He-Man game on iOS I was cautiously excited. And the bottom line here is, if you liked He-Man back in the day you might as well go download this 0.99 cent game right now. Sure,  He-Man: The Most Powerful Game in the Universe is a pretty non serious and lighthearted  iOS title that’s nothing more than an hack and slash platform game, but it is still a lot of fun and it brings back some good retro memories. The visuals are bright and colorful, albeit maybe a bit too cartoon like.  The controls work  pretty well by using a floating D-Pad for jumping and attacking while the left side of the screen allows you to move back and forward. You can upgrade He-Mans powers with gems that you collect in game. You can even summon Man At Arms to come help you at times of need.  Of course, and most importantly, you can summon the power of Castle Grayskull by saying ” I HAVE THE POWER”! This will make you all but invincible  allowing you to break down walls and defeat the biggest of bad guys with ease. The levels are pretty good, but due to the platform on which it was made somewhat short. The good news is that there are many levels and a lot of incentive to go back and collect items that you missed out on the first time around. So, if your looking for a hack an slasher on your iPhone but don’t know who He-Man is the game is still worth your dollar. On the other hand if you know the 80’s cartoon and Toy icon and remember him fondly this is a “insta buy” in my opinion ! Check out a few screens I took of the game below as always.

Wonderpod Episode 132

This weeks Wonderpod was largely improv and ad-lib. Still about video games and all that fun stuff, but largely pulled out of a hat live on recording day. We hope you love it. This type of show is always the most fun for the crew. Special thanks to Glasenator for the photo shop magic. The crappy font wasn’t him. That was out sourced to a cellar full of rabid twilight fans.

PatMan Picks Free iPhone games. Square Planet

What is this? Not one but two FREE iOS games today that are worth a download? While you are busy streaking for free today make sure to take some time and download Square Planet, you wont regret it. Its a very nice looking 3D polygonal platform game that plays in the style of a 2D one. Its bright, colorful, controls well and most importantly it is FREE. The game just came out today, so there is no telling how long it will stay free as prices change very quickly in the Apps store. So how does a brand new game that came out only hours ago go totally free? Well, the game does have a few ads in between the levels and there is also some non intrusive micro transactions, if you are in the mood for extra stuff. Still none of this gets in the way of a fun game play experience, very nice visuals and well done sounds. The only thing that I personally am not a big fan of here is the gyroscopic controls to move back and forth. This is just my personal dislike of moving the screen back and forth, up and down while playing. I prefer keeping the phone stationary myself. Still it works decently and it costs nothing so go check it out, you will be pleasantly surprised by the quality of this game. Screens are below. See you all next time on PatMan Picks FREE iOS games!

PatMan Picks Free iPhone games. Streaker Run

Another week, another endless runner or Temple Run clone. Seems like these clone games keep on coming out ,pardon the pun, endlessly. Many of these games are pretty crappy to be honest but Streaker Run actually manages to be both fun and humorous at the same time. Sure it is the same song and dance as all the other endless runners before it, but hey you are a streaker this time! What little bit of a story this game has revolves around your girlfriends husband coming home and catching you in the nude with his wife. You jump out the window in a panic and he chases you all over the neighborhood. You didn’t have time to put any of your cloths on, btw. The humor is actually pretty good with lines like ” Hey it is not Oktoberfest , put the sausage away”! and ” you MUST be cold”? The game play is as fun as it gets for such an overused game type. Temple Run style game play is Temple Run style game play. Basically at this point you like it or you don’t like it. However, by the sales of all these clones I am betting that most people who play iOS games seem to like it.  The bottom line here is that Streaker Run is a good albeit unoriginal time waster. It is  fun, it is FREE, so go check it out !  Screens as always below.
