PatMan Picks Free iPhone Games. Blood Roofs.

Ok, so it is Monday and your all back to work. I know, its kind of a drag. Tell me about it. You probably want something to take you away from the “Monday blues”. So, how about another FREE iOS title? That should help. This time its an “endless runner” type game by the name of Blood Roofs. It has not been out for long and yet it is already on sale for free for a limited time. This has started to become a trend as of late and I cant help but wonder what all the early adapters are starting to think. The graphicsin Blood Roofs are nice and what makes it a little different is the ability to control 2 characters at the same time, one for jumping and moving ,the other for shooting. This helps make Blood Roofs a little less generic than the swarm of endless runners out there. The game controls decently by gyroscopic motion but some of the jumping takes a little bit of time to get used to. And by that I mean I keep falling to my death over and over again. Also, the camera angle makes things a bit of a challenge when jumping across roof tops. There are plenty of enemies to shoot , coins to collect and roofs to well, jump across. Check out the screens I took below and while I must admit I am getting a little tired of all these endless runners, Blood Roofs is one of the better ones out there. And if you act now, it is free. Happy Monday.

PatMan Picks Free iPhone Games. Turret Commander

Another day another FREE iOS title for all of you to give a try. The game is called Turret Commander and it is pretty good, albeit repetitive. Turret Commander is a very nice looking WWII shooter where you basically take aim at everything that moves in the sky from your turret. Pretty simple game play yet fun enough to be a good time killer, which really is what most iOS gamers are looking for in most games anyways. The visuals are very nice and the controls are OK as long as you pay attention to the tutorial. So my *PatTip* for today is for you guys/gals to actually  do the tutorial so you understand where to move and where to shoot. Otherwise things will be frustrating for you when they don’t need to be. Honestly the game could do with a little more variety but what is there is pretty good for short bursts of play and at its current FREE price tag it is well worth some space on your iPhone. I have my usual in game screens below, check them out and I will return with my next free iOS pick sometime soon!

Super Snail and Stupid Slug

For those who are a seeking some context to the title of this week’s show, this little animation I did for class may enlighten you some.

As a little backstory, these two characters Super Snail and Stupid Slug are guys I’ve been drawing since I got into art during Middle School. I was pretty big into making comics back in the day and they were my go to characters. They’re pretty easy and fun to draw so I like to use them whenever possible. Super Snail’s main trait is that he is a retired superhero, due to the fact that everyone he tried to save died from old age before he could reach them. Stupid Slug’s main trait is that he’s well…stupid. Hopefully as the semester goes on I’ll get some more opportunities to show you these guys.

Oh and as an added bonus bit of information, that 5 seconds of animation was about 60 drawings…yuck.

PatMan Picks Free iPhone Games. Mole Kart 2 Evolution

I am always skeptical about iOS Kart racers, hell any kart racer that’s not from Nintendo, to be honest. And usually it is for good reason as many of them don’t compare to the almighty Mario Kart. Most of the iPhone attempts at kart racing games I have played end up deleted within a few hours.  Not because I am a Mario Kart snob, but usually because of poor touch control issues. You see if I can not control my kart with at least a decent amount of precision, then why should I even play? Luckily Mole Kart 2 Evolution does a pretty decent job as a  fun portable kart racer on my iPhone. Most importantly, the controls seem to work pretty well here. The tracks are decent and the racing is fun . As you probably have already guessed, the title does not have any recognizable characters to play as but, if you pick it up soon, it will cost you nothing, so what the hell is there to complain about?  If it is FREE it is for me!  And if you like  cute and fun racing games that have decent controls, it should also be for you! As usual I took a few in game screens and you can see them below. See you next time for more free iOS games!

Smackdown 09/28/12

Since I tend to grab the non-spoiler match card before writing this, it gives me an idea of what type of suffering I am about to enter into. And dear lord, this one looks redundant and bad. Let’s see if the actual show delivers regardless, shall we?

Resident ThinkSoJoE was at this event, he might get involved.

Oh, bye bye Kelly Kelly Kelly! No one will miss you!

PatMan Picks Free iPhone Games. LegendHero

It is the start of the weekend so that can only imply one thing, more time for video games!  If you looking for something new to try out on your iPhone but don’t want to spend a dime on it, check out the Japanese title  LegendHero. It is free for a limited time. My first impressions of the screenshots I saw were that of Viewtifu Joe. Of course, by no surprise, the Indy developer didn’t deliver as good of a game as that cell shaded platform /action classic but LegendHero is fun enough none the less.  There is very little platforming aside from jumping out of the way of stuff and variety of enemies, thus far,  is pretty limited but its decent fun for free. The controls are decent and the levels can be played in short bursts, which is ideal for the platform it is on. Much of the text is in Japanese so unless you can understand that language you may have a bit of trouble in the options, shop and menu screens. But really it is a pretty straight forward game and you should have no problems playing it. Check it out this weekend while it is still free and I will see you all next time! Screens, as always, are below!

Wonderpod Episode 129

This week on Wonderpod. We had a fatal four way show were we probably wrecked the fabric of reality. It would explain how stupid yours truly was being. Special thanks to Chris Loyd for staying up until three in the morning to join in on the shenanigans. Oh and we talked about video games once or twice as well. Got to keep things real on the streets yo.

Sleeping Dogs

General Overview

Imagine if you had a game that combined elements of Saints Row, True Crime, Batman Arkham Asylum, Max Payne, and Assassin’s Creed. Imagine if that same game was a sprawling action RPG hybrid being fronted by Square Enix. Sounds too good to be true, right? Strangely enough, Sleeping Dogs seems to combine all of these elements and more and with a few understandable bugs, but all the same manages to pull it off.
